Mobile Phone Video Art Classics

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

In July 2007 E:ventGallery presented an exhibition of work by Mark Amerika.

Mark Amerika’s recent artwork has investigated the emergence of digitally constructed identities, theoretical fictions, meta-histories, and collaborative networks. In his new artwork, Mobile Phone Video Art Classics (MPVAC), the artist composts various art personas and artworks into a narrative sequence of mobile phone video images that conjure up both the spirits of the past as well as hauntological actors of the present.

logo.gif is a research commission for artists making mobile phone art. The organization started early on in 2002 as a series of questions. Would artists be interested in making ‘commercial’ content, namely, really small pieces of art that could be sold to mobile phone users? If so, would the commercial distribution aspect affect the type of work they created? Equally, would typical ringtone/logo consumers be interested in purchasing innovative, artist designed content? What sort of content would be most popular, and why?
