Sign of the times?

April 10th, 2008

At the ‘Art in mobile’-show in Art Gallery Galerie de Meerse the project 15×15 is presented. A homage to Andy Warhol, a realization of the artistic utilization of new media technology and democratization of art in the age of digital production. The project is developed by Richard Vickers, Oliver Dore, Greg Brant, the Hull School of Art & Design and the University of Lincoln.

You can become famous using your standard mobile camera phone and send video clips using MMS to +44 (0)79 68 57 30 84. Your clip will be shown for 15 seconds randomly on a screen together with 14 other clips (hence the name 15×15).

At the moment, Dallas Contemporary exhibits a project called realtime:08. And guess what? This show asks the question; ‘what kind of art do you make in 15 seconds on a mobile phone?’ The show is curated by Dean Terry and John Pomara. The artists participating are:

* Inter.sect art collective
* Kirsten Macy
* Doreen Maloney
* Marjorie & Ludwig Schwarz
* Leslie Sharpe
* Bart Weiss

Art in Mobile

April 5th, 2008

pleaseusephone.pngEverybody knows that a mobile phone nowadays is not just a device to be able to talk. With most of the cells you can make pictures, movies and ringtones. A lot of artists are inspired by that. They use mobile phones as main subjects for their projects, make art for phones or create art with their phones.

Art in Mobile, an initiative of the non-profit Art Gallery, Galerie De Meerse (10 minutes from Schiphol Airport, The Netherlands) wants to collect all this type of art on this website. Besides that, a special class program for teenagers will be developed, as well as workshops about how to use your phone as a tool to make art. In March and April, Galerie De Meerse will show the most remarkable pieces of art at her gallery.

If you have something for Art in Mobile, let us know at info [info #AT# artinmobile.com] and you might end up in the art gallery.

Please use your phone!

De nummers worden verspreid via V-cast, het ‘entertainment-kanaal’ van Verizon. Daarmee kun je op een telefoon clips bekijken en muziek beluisteren. Read the rest of this entry »

Artones.net

January 17th, 2008

logo.gif

Artones.net is a research commission for artists making mobile phone art. The organization started early on in 2002 as a series of questions. Would artists be interested in making ‘commercial’ content, namely, really small pieces of art that could be sold to mobile phone users? If so, would the commercial distribution aspect affect the type of work they created? Equally, would typical ringtone/logo consumers be interested in purchasing innovative, artist designed content? What sort of content would be most popular, and why?
